Hello all- I feel like a complete idiot not knowing exactly who to call here but..... after a few months of living in denial- the 'noise' in my air duct/vents isn't going away.

I am thinking it might be a creature (mouse? bird?) or something. It crackles and creaks in the duct almost non-stop so I am afraid something is alive in there- does anybody have any suggestions of who I should call for this? I am a little terrified to go investigating myself (in case it is alive), but I can't ignore the noise any longer either.

Suggestions welcome!!
