After talking to the police officers that handled the break-ins today, I
wanted to pass along some good information that will help everyone. The
police made the following suggestions...

- Install an alarm system and use it. An audible alarm will deter
burglars and alert other residence there is a problem.

- Use a sticker or plaque indicating your unit is alarmed. This is
another visual deterrent that is inexpensive.

- Place your emergency contact information on your refrigerator. Incase
there is a problem with your unit the police can instantly contact you.
Include your work number, cell number, and a second person to contact
incase you cannot be reached.

- Install an additional deadbolt lock on your unit. A second deadbolt not
only makes it more difficult to gain entry, it often acts as a visual
deterrent.

- Question the people you see in and around the building. If something
looks strange, contact the police immediately.

- If a door or access gate is broken or not working properly, report the
problem immediately to property management.
