Tom - I'm in complete agreement. I'm not happy about Verizon being on the
roof all night to do work. It is a recipe for problems for multiple
reasons.

I've requested a copy of the Verizon contract from First Properties. I'm
also trying to get the contact information of the people at Verizon, both
the administrators and the workers.

Q: Has anyone conveyed to the folks at Verizon (the actual workers, not
the administrators) that every time they walk on the roof, they dump crap
into the units?
A: I'm my opinion... No. I highly doubt that our property management
company has called Verizon to explain the issues with the roof and the 7th
floor residents.

>> "...they should be able to access the tower, conduits, etc. by walking
on roof areas over the corridors."

Yes, they should. Keep in mind, common sense is in short supply these
days. It's rather obvious to both of us, but who knows what the Verizon
Wireless folks are thinking.

>> "All I know for sure is that I was woken up very early this morning
with tar dust falling on my head, and I don't ever want that to happen
again."

I agree. I don't want it to happen, period.

We do hold one important card in our hands that allows us some control
over the situation. If we do not get results from Verizon, we can cut off
access to the building via the access control system. This will most
likely raise a red flag for Verizon and they will end up calling property
management to get the situation sorted out. We'll get some results one
way or another.

Chris:

I understand that for emergencies, etc. Verizon needs access to the roof.
At some point though, they have to realize that we are a residential
building, and some courtesies should be given. Judging by the other
e-mails from Robin and Kelly, it looks like they were on the roof all
evening and night, which leads me to believe that this was maybe more than
just an emergency.

Maybe Verizon could 1) schedule work (when they know it will be for
extended hours) during the day, and 2) let us know when they will be
working all night.

Has anyone conveyed to the folks at Verizon (the actual workers, not the
administrators) that every time they walk on the roof, they dump crap into
the units? I realize they need access to the roof (I'm sure it is also in
our contract), but they should be able to access the tower, conduits, etc.
by walking on roof areas over the corridors. I have found in my daily
dealings with contractors that if you show them some respect and explain
why you want them to do something, they are usually very accommodating.

All I know for sure is that I was woken up very early this morning with
tar dust falling on my head, and I don't ever want that to happen again.

All,

I checked the Access Control logs and it appears Verizon had some workers
on the roof last night. I'll contact First Properties and report the
problem. We'll track down our contacts at Verizon and report it. Thanks
for the email.

Re: question...

Kelly:

I heard the same thing starting at about 3:45 am. Whoever it was had
been moving around for over an hour above my bedroom. Not only was it
very annoying, but a little creepy, as well.

Chris, Brian, Jim, Derek:

Can you please let us know who it was on the roof all night? If it was
Verizon, someone should contact them to let them know their workers were
apparently screwing around all night, because my condo is on the other
side of the building from the Verizon tower, and there are no conduits,
etc. that run in my direction.

When I moved into the building six years ago, I was told the residents
on the 7th floor, in general, pay higher assessments. As near as I can
tell, the only thing I get for the higher assessments is crap falling in
from the roof every time the wind blows hard or someone is walking
around on the roof. Since this person was on the roof for over an hour
right above my bedroom, I got crap falling in from the roof...on
me...while I was trying to sleep...for over an hour. Judging by the
time stamp on Kelly's e-mail (1:34 am), this person was on the roof for
at least 3 hours. What in the hell were they doing on the roof for 3
hours? I don't think it's too much to ask to let us know.
