Board Members,
The issue of the satellite dish has caused me to ask some questions.
1. Does dish network currently have the capability to offer high speed
Internet access

No - please see list of pros and cons distributed two weeks ago.

2. If I or other residents do not want this service will we be forced to
subscribe to it if we want cable.

Yes - just like if you want anything other that "rabbit ears" broadcast tv now you are forced to subscribe to Prime Cable.

3. What are the exact savings by having this service.

This will depend on the package you choose. Information is available at www.dishnetwork.com.

4. Has Prime cable been contacted to see if they will offer a comparable
deal. I'm sure that they don't want to lose 105 customers without offering
some kind of discount or brake on their high speed Internet access

Yes - their offer was much more restrictive. All owners would have to pay for cable tv whether they even owned a tv or not - we would have to sign a multi year contract - we would have to pay for our security camera - we would not get digital picture and cd sound quality - we would have no more guarantees about service or upgrades than with dishnetwork. They offered no price break on internet service. I have spoken to several owners who have been disappointed with Prime Cable's internet service and have since switched to DSL.

5. What if a better service comes to our area and some residents want to
switch.

No other companies are planning to enter our area until 2003.

6. What guarantees do we have that dishnetwork won't hike up their prices
down the road.

We plan to address this question at the meeting along with obtaining assurances that any needed repairs will be effected in a timely manner and that they will be keeping up with changes in technology.

7. Is dishnetwork HDTV compatible since most TV stations and televisions sold
today are.

Yes.

8. How will this contract with dishnetwork affect unit owners when they sell
their units or will it affect them at all.

Most buildings that have satellite tv systems advertise them as a plus.

9. What happened to our rights to choose for ourselves what we want.

This is one of the compromises of condo living. We have asked for feedback to ensure that this decision represents the wishes of the majority of the owners.

10. Did someone originally call dishnetwork or was it unsolicited.

We called dishnetwork after discovering that they are the only satellite tv service in the Chicago area and after speaking with Prime Cable several times and after asking other cable companies (digital ones) whether they would be in our area soon.

11. If owners want a satellite dish instead of cable, can that dish be placed
on the roof where nobody can see it.

With dishnetwork, two large dishes will be on the roof connecting everyone that wishes to subscribe. With the smaller dish services, nobody on the north side of the building could have service.

These are just a few of the concerns that other unit owners and I have about
this discussion. I work the evenings that the board meetings have been held
on and have not had the opportunity to hear the responses, if any, to these
questions. Personally, I do not like the idea of limiting my choices by
signing a 10 year exclusivity contract.

We realize that 10 years is a long time. We are working to ensure that our interests will be protected while under contract.

Paul Sanchez
Unit 615

PS
Since I cannot attend the board meeting, I would appreciate if another
unit owner could raise these issues.
