Subject: building security

Just got back to my e-mail and read postings about building security. I
agree with a lot that's been said. The bottom line, however is that security
in and around the building MUST be improved and we need to examine ways to do
so. Ideally the solution will be a)inexpensive and b)relatively unrestrictive
on owners.
On the owner v. renter issue: My personal experience (as a former owner of
rental property) is that I am ever amazed at the unthinking and irresponsible
things renters can do. When I sold my last rental building I swore I would
never again be a landlord because the bother and expense were not worth it.
Contrary to some messages, the VAST majority of renters is much less likely to
take pride in their homes.
Regarding the locks on the outer doors. It is not only Rezmar people that
have access to the building, but the former valets and security personnel.
Who knows how many copies there are. The argument has been made that until we
get the common area punch list items completed we should give Rezmar no
excuses ("We can't get into the building") to not finish them. It will
therefore be a very long time before we can change the locks. In the meantime
I think that rear door situation has, with the locker break-ins, become an
emergency. The overhead garage door needs to be rendered more reliable also. I
don't know if the other gates function correctly, but if not, they too need
attention.
If sure the Board is as concerned as those of us who are part of this
discussion group. The items discussed here will surely be a part of their
agenda and suggestions offered here and at meetings are hopefully, impacting
their decisions.
