Just so you know what might be going on with the unit and so you don't get ripped off...

Look at the copper lines running into and out of your AC unit. One line is thicker than the other and the thicker one should have an insulated wrap around it. The wrap soaks up condensation from the pipe sweating. Then thin line should not be wet. If the thin line is wet, it is thawing out and was caused by the AC running when it is below 60 degrees outside. Did it even get below 60F last night?

If not, sounds like a freon leak. Then heavy rain could have caused a leak in the line. The line will have to be pressure checked. If it has pressure but is low on freon, the freon can be replaced. If there is no pressure, the repair man will have to find the leak, seal it and re-charge the system with freon.

Oh yea, have you changed the in unit filter? Don't put a $0.99 filter in, put a good one in and you will save yourself future headaches.

Hello all,

Before I call someone and spend another lump of money because I am so naive, I have a question about my air conditioner. For some reason, it appears to have quit working this afternoon. Nothing happened, it was working last night but now it seems the fan is coming on/off (have it auto set to hold at 70), but the actual temperature is just climbing to about 80 degrees inside now.

Could anything have happened with the storm this morning that might be an easy fix? Any troubleshooting tips you can give me... and as a last resort, any recommendations on who to call that I can trust? Last time I blindly called it cost me $400.00 for something I apparently didn't need and I don't want to make the same mistake again.

Thanks!!
