I've heard reports that there have been more breakins in the building,
apparently by a team of guys hitting west loop units. Does anybody have
any idea how many of our units have been hit?

Some questions:

1) Has First Properties considered additional ways to enhance security,
even if it costs us a bit more money (eg, additional surveillance or
other fairly recent (but sometimes expensive) technology?

2 How many people in the building have the security alarms for the door?
We've found that it takes about 10-15 minutes from when the alarm goes
off to when police knock on the door. Have there been any attempted
entries where the alarm scared off the crooks?

3) Back around 1999-2000, there was some discussion with 1P about whether
residents could modify their doors (deadbolts, lock-plates). As I
recall the discussion (Michael R? Mary D? Debra A? -- do you recall
anything?) - there was some concern that, because the outside of our
doors were part of a limited common area (Michael/Donna do I have this
right?), it wouldn't be a good idea to modify the doors in a way that
would be visible from the outside. I assume that this restriction has
been relaxed or removed, right?

Does anybody have any ideas on how other buildings have enhanced security?
