There is an annual owner's meeting scheduled for Dec 6. Notices will be sent out in accordance with the Illinois statutes. Please be aware that only items on the agenda can be "officially" discussed although we almost always have discussion on informal owner input.

If there is something that someone wants included on the agenda they should let someone on the Board know.

Presently, the following are board members:

  Mary Deskovich mdeskovich@yahoo.com
  Tom Kikta tkikta@legat.com
  Derek Lane derekl74@yahoo.com
  Justin Pivec jpivec@hotmail.com

I can actually read (if need be) by the light in the hall as long as I have my glasses on. The concern about security is legitimate, but there really aren't any dark corners in the hallways for someone to hide in, even when a bulb is burned out, and I leave the building at 4:45 am and return well after dark on most evenings. Now, the back stairwell is a different story. When a bulb is burned out there, it is definitely dark until it is replaced, but that would happen no matter what watt bulb is used.

There are presently compact florescents in the wall sconces. They are 15
watts, with the equivilent light output of a 60 watt incandescent bulb. The
next step up would be to a 25 watt florescent with the light output of a 100
watt incandescent bulb, so we would be talking a significant increase in
electricity as these lights burn 24/7.

Also, it has been a couple of years since we looked into it, and I'm sure
there have been technological advance, but the other issue is that the 25
watt bulb was larger than the fixture itself and sticks out of the bottom.

At one time, we talked about puting compact fluorescent lamps in the light
fixtures. It obviously has a bit different aesthetic, but would certainly
brighten the corridors.

While I agree that the halls are a bit dim, it seems to be a trend nowadays
(particularly in loft buildings) to have dimmer halls. Certainly, he high
ceilings and the fact that the ceilings are not painted white contribute to
the feeling of a dimmer hallway. I'm not sure if it's an aesthetic or cost
savings choice (in other loft buildings) to have the halls as they are, but
comparitively, I don't think Vanguard's halls are that dim.

However, it is a board decision, so this can be brought up again at the open
forum at the next board meeting and the board can decide if they want to
discuss it further.
