Subject: Owners meeting summary - Part II
From: Jim Thomas (jthomas@math.niu.edu)
Date: Sat Nov 17 2007 - 01:10:38 CST
A few highlights from the meeting (a draft of the minutes will be coming
in a week or so):
1) BUDGET/ASSESSMENTS: Thanks to the owners who came to share their
views of assessments. The discussion was frank, direct, and helpful.
None of us like increases in assessments, but sometimes it's necessary
to increase assessements to assure reserves for maintenance, to make up
for years of no increases, and to provide a safety net to avoid special
assessments. It's clear that the Board could do a better job of
communicating the rationale for the budget. In the next few weeks, we
will put together a "frequently asked questions" about assessments,
drawing form the issues that arose Wednesday. We are also trying to
pull together the budgets and assessments since 1998 and put them
online.
2) WHAT OTHER ASSOCIATIONS PAY FOR ASSESSMENTS: The question arose
that some other buildings have lower assessments and get more bang
for the buck. To assess this, Robin Raffel (713) and Corina Rodriguez
(515) will be exploring what other buildings are paying and what they
get for the money. If anybody wants to help them or provide questions
to ask or help dig out information, send them email:
Robin: raffs23@sbcglobal.net
Corina: rodseven@yahoo.com
3) REAR ELEVATOR: Joe Lara will be requesting that another company
look at the rear elevator and given an estimate
4) HOLIDAY PARTY: In the works - stay tuned
Jim
