Jim,
So far I've left 3 voicemails including one today since your response and
have not received a call back.
Can we get Roddy into our next board meeting?
Mike

Michael, you can upgrade to HDTV through USADISH. Apparently, many have,
and Roddy was on-site yestereay installing somebody's. We haven't heard
any complaints about the quality of the reception yet. The problems have
been with billing following cancellation of service, with getting
somebody out, especially last Oct->Dec, and with getting through to
set up installation appointment. There have also been complaints about
the costs of HDTV receivers.
Many people would like Comcast. But bear in mind, that there's always
a catch. Part of the report we're waiting for from Comcast includes
a potential glitch in providing service. Our current contract between
Roddy and the Association excludes all other providers, and individual
owners have the option of subscribing or not. In other words, individual
owners are responsible for subbing, paying, cancelling. You don't
pay unless you subscribe to the service. Comcast might want the
opposite: A new Comcast contract could require that the Association
pay to have cable installed, available to all units, and that the
Association would then be responsible for paying the monthly bill out
of assessments. So, whether individual owners subbed to cable or not,
we would all pay for the collective. Owners chosing to say with Dish
or go with another provider, which they could under a new contract,
would essentially be paying for service twice.
In looking at old documents around 2000, that was one reason why the
then-board went with USADISH: There weren't many providers at the time
to serve West Loop. All (including Roddy) wanted an aggregate commercial
contract where the Association is billed a flat rate. Roddy, as I
recall, was finally willing to sign an exclusivity contract in exchange
for individual billing.
So, those are some of the background issues the Board is grappling with.
Jim
