If you do not have a land-line phone, how would one gain access to the
building?

Subject: AT&T/DSL service available again

A few weeks ago, some residents who indicated that they wanted AT&T DSL
service reported that AT&T said service was unavailable in our area
because of a shortage of ports. At the time, we called AT&T to see what
could be done to expand port availabilty. We also urged people to keep
calling AT&T in case ports were freed up or others became available.

I just got off the phone with AT&T. They said:

1) At this moment, there is service available to our building. So, if
you want AT&T's DSL, call them ASAP. You don't need a landline to have
DSL, but it costs about $5 more on some of the packages.

2) If you call and are told by AT&T that service is unavailable at 1250
West Vanburen, there's a backdoor that might work. Call AT&T's
Provisioning Department:
      888-722-9337

You will get an automated message asking you for your two or three digit
"transfer number." Use either 421 or 510 (both worked when I tried it).
Then, when you get a live person, tell them you want DSL, were told
there were no more ports, and see if they can open something up.

Jim
