Good question, Robin. There's lots of false information out there
regarding our Dish Network service. Here's where things are at:
1) By law, people can't be prohibited from putting their own
satellite dish on a balcony. (NOTE: There are restrictions on how
they can be installed, so those who install them improperly are subject
to a fine). Only residents on the south side can get their
own satellite service. Individual satellites may not be as
cost-effective, as reliable, or as efficient as Dish Network.
2) Somebody reported that they heard that individual satellites are the
only way to get service. This is flat-out *FALSE*!!
Although we have terminated our contract with Roddy Glenn/USA Dish,
Dish Network continues to provide service and they *will* continue to
provide service. We're considered a "prime commercial building," and
they don't want to lose us.
3) Where do we currently stand? As of this afternoon:
--Dish Network came out last week to do a site survey. Not surprisingly,
they found that USA Dish did not keep the infrastructure up to spec,
and they will be doing a major upgrade of the equipment in coming
weeks.
--They will announce very soon who to call to establish new service
or upgrade existing service. We are pushing them to speed this process
up.
We've only received a few private emails from people who need service
now, and we're working with those people on an individual basis.
4) Alternative providers: Comcast has been out to the building. There
are some infrastructure issues we need to work out. U-Verse is not yet
available. We will certainly explore bringing them, but it's not
something done overnight.
If anybody has an individual Dish issue they want addressed, send
my private email and I'll forward it to Dish.
The bottom line: Roddy is gone, but Dish Network is alive and well.
Jim
