I have had at&t DSL for a while. The newer 2-wire wireless router from my
experience has been garbage. It may be source of your pain as it may be on
its last legs. The older 2-wire wireless router works well and great. I gave
my older one to my parents so that they can have a problem-free experience.
I have burned through 2 of the newer ones and will now get a all together
different model where I can provide the software/firmware for it myself so I
don't have all these problems. You check if there is a firmware update for
yours that is recommended. You can have at&t check and tell you if you are
having problems on your line our at the house. You can check some things
from your router. Additionally if you have DSL running on the main line
(inner pair of phone wires) this is the same line our buildings buzzer
system runs on. It also sends a digital signal on this line which disrupts
the DSL signal. DSL will work in general but when someone buzzes in the
routing table gets changed on the machine for that time and can cause packet
routing problems (appearance of poor at&t service...). If you are running a
VPN session that doesn't allow routing table updates while the VPN tunnel is
up it will drop your VPN due to the routing table change. For this I would
recommend you request at&t move your phone line to the outer pair of wires
on the phone cord. I had that done years ago. I just hope the issue is a
technicians oversite while preparing our building for U-verse so I can
finally switch... And someone from the board can verify that once U-verse
is availabe in the building we can indeed get it and not have any issues
from Dish Network....
